Birds
« on: Jan 13, 2019, 03:03:19 PM »
I'm worried about one of the pair of Collared doves that I see every day. They're normally inseparable but there's only been one, on its own, for a couple/three days now...looking a bit lost.

Pussy has probably taken the partner.

Certainly one possibility...I prefer to think he's packed her off for a spa weekend. Maybe a visit to the feather-dresser..

Perhaps she is sitting on the nest, keeping it warm.

Or maybe they've had a row and she's gone home to mum for a while.  :-*

A disagreement over twigs probably. He's probably bringing imperial twigs and she's trying to build a metric nest. And he's told her to chew the end off if it's too long and she's told him where to put his twigs. That sort of think, no doubt. They'll get over it.

He/she is still alone and forlorn today...Meanwhile the squirrels are chasing each other around the garden like mad things so life goes on I guess..

Have you checked around the hedges and undergrowth nearby? Your dove may be hurt and need your help. I'd go and check if I were you.

Actually I really do know how your feeling. There have been a pair of Swans here on the pond/river for several years now and I have gotten to know them very well and they trusted me. Mr Swan used to come over and sit by me and he'd rub his head on my legs. She was not so brave but I could feed her from my hand, him too. Anyway she died last summer and it hit me really hard, Mr Swan left and I waited all the rest of the year for him to return but he only came back a few days ago, he has a new mate with him she's a lot smaller and younger (i think) than him, so I doubt there will be cygnets this year. Anyway I was really chuffed to see them and he came to me right away but the new one WOW she's a hissy wee madam lol. I'm going to have my work cut out getting her to trust me.
I really hope your dove comes back to you, so stupid the attachments we form with wild creatures..
