Damned fake memory
« on: Jan 31, 2019, 12:36:29 PM »
I do hope you all test any memory cards you buy.

I just received one in the post that I bought on ebay. The price was low but not suspiciously low. Retail packaging looked perfect. Tested the card - a fake it purports to be 64GB but fails if over 8GB used.

I'll get a refund. The seller pays post both ways. The retail packaging has to be cut to get the card out so can't be resold in that.

On the face of it selling this junk isn't worth it but naturally it is because most people don't test their cards and maybe only find out there are errors weeks later so don't bother returning. He's sold 50 cards and I'll bet less than 10 will get returned. If his feedback is trashed he'll just set up a fresh account - the one I bought from only had a few hundred which was probably a give away except that they were all  positive.
