I must say I did not drink much in my working days and when I saw my sick record at the end in just under 37 years service I had 55 days sick leave.
Oddly it was low compared with other people but some of them had extended time off for cancer etc
For somebody who had no permanent health problem it was high.
I was addicted to aerobics.

When I was in the civil service (back in the early 1960s) I was taken aside by my section head and advised to take a few days sick leave because otherwise it made others look bad.

I suppose he could have said "it's making you look good", which would not do in the civil service.

I was only there for about 8 months - too many petty rules and regulations for me! I left to become a librarian because I was a book addict.
