I don't ever remember a nit nurse
but we did have girls with their head shaved, their head painted with purple stuff
some kinda Violet, they all wore pixie hats for about a year, poor babies
some asses pulled their hats off, I spelt asses wrong..

We had the pupils with impetigo and purple painted parts. We also had the nit nurse who doubled as the verruca nurse

Even in wartime, I recall two characters coming down from the county education committee to inspect the register and quiz the headmaster about habitual absentees. I sat in the front row of desks in our class and distinctly remember this "suit" demanding of the head why a certain lad had been off for a fortnight. The head mumbled something about illness and the retort of the visiting worthy was "We shall be off to his house today to check on him!"
