Do you remember the Schoolboard man.?
The one around here  was short with a little moustache and glasses.. Not my type at all.

We had the pupils with impetigo and purple painted parts.  We also had the nit nurse who doubled as the verruca nurse  ;D .

Even in wartime, I recall two characters coming down from the county education committee to inspect the register and quiz the headmaster about habitual absentees.  I sat in the front row of desks in our class and distinctly remember this "suit" demanding of the head why a certain lad had been off for a fortnight.  The head mumbled something about illness and the retort of the visiting worthy was "We shall be off to his house today to check on him!"
