As Raven said, sometimes a one-to-one chat is preferable. I agree which is why I used to include my email address on my info.

You can always invite someone you want to chat to privately to either join you on one of your other  forums or exchange emails via Chris, the site owner.  I find PMs tend to make the board a bit cliquey.

;D  I just wrote Christ, the site owner, but no-one saw me.  Phew!  ;D

Why? If  it is a public forum?

It's unusual not to have them Em.  I know I don't use them on one of the forums I go on but on another they are used a lot.  You might, for instance, be asking about something that someone wants to help you with by relating their experience but not on an open forum as it might make them easier to identify.  On some forums people get to know others in their own area and meet up.  I'm on a sewing one where that happens.  It usually works very well.
