Notre Dame
« on: Apr 15, 2019, 07:19:22 PM »
I'm looking at pictures of Notre Dame in flames and find it unbelievable, the spire has collapsed and part of the roof.  How sad such an iconic building is in flames.  Unbelievable.

Looks really bad, then so did Windsor and they managed to restore it.

Insurance job.
So many churches have been desecrated and set on fire in France this year, I hope they DID have insurance  !
I wonder why they didn't use helicopters to drop water from the Seine on to the flames, it's right beside the river isn't it ?

From what I read Ashy, it developed very quickly so I doubt that a fire-fighting helicopter would've made it to the scene in time to be useful..

Too much risk of people being hurt. People, dogs, cats and other animals are far more important.

Oh dear, so soon after the French were dishing out the orders about Brexit.

As long as no one is hurt or injured it can burn to the ground as far as I'm concerned & take the rest of Paris with it. ;D ;D ;D

It's just a building, it's not a 747 that's crashed & killed 400 people, also a firefighter was seriously injured, that's who I save my concern for, so yes, I am showing my true colours.

I wonder if anyone had a hunch it would happen.

P.S. The smilies meant & I wasn't really serious about the rest of Paris.

I hope we don't have to increase our EU contribution to help to pay for the restoration when an EU grant gets fudged.

If that is the attitude of a Brexit leaver, I am so glad I am not one of them.

It might be just a building to you but it is more than that to the Parisians, it is part of their life and one that they are proud of.

The French tried to destroy it during their revolution & they weren't Brexiteers.  ;D

I have no doubt it will be rebuilt, just so long as none of the UK's taxpayers' money goes into it.

I felt like crying when I saw it.  It must mean the same to the French as Westminster Abbey does to us, so much history lost.  I did appreciate seeing Msr Macron though  ;)
