What is this sudden attraction for getting oneself tattooed? Back in my youth it was something one tended to see - as a sub-set of society - amongst sailors but scarcely anywhere else. Why the change? One of the nurses in our health centre has a tattoo on her neck, just visible above her uniform collar. Back in the day when I appointed staff I would have shown her the door had she applied for a job with my authority. My reasoning? She would have been an interface between my authority and the general public we existed to serve, and whose money we took. I would have seen a tattooed nurse as a totally wrong message to that public. Back then, sailors apart, tattoos equalled yobs.
