I caught the beginning of Notorious with Ingrid Bergman.  As I had watched this numerous times with my mother in the past, I was tempted to "just watch the next bit" until the film was finished ;D .  It is just so tense at times and even though I am almost word perfect on it, I once again got caught up in it.

I think that because those older films only had the soundtrack, cinematography the script and the acting to work with they crafted what they had very carefully to produce some riveting and memorable films perfectly in tune with the times they were made...

I watched a film called Spenser Confidential it was really good.  A 'little' violent in places, but Mark Wahlberg was in it and I'd watch him painting his garden fence.   8/10 from me.

Yes..Though perhaps 7.5 from me cos I found Pearl more attractive but I enjoyed it very much.  Thanks Alex.

Watching a modern drama I was struck by the lack of distinctive voices among the male leads..They have the heroic looks and have certainly paid their dues in the gym but they don't have characterful voices for the most part..I wonder if it's just me..

Well, as far as I am aware, there’s certainly no modern equivalent of Jimmy Stewart or John Wayne

You're on your own with that Alex..Horror films don' impress me much..Generally I prefer quiet films that don't involve guns and car chases but if a film is a good one I don't care that much about the genre..Remember 'Misery'? Not my kind of film on the face of it but I loved it..

Yes I remember Misery, James Caan wasn't it, a good film.  I'm not into horror films or blood and gore, but I do like supernatural stories.

One of my favorite actors voices was John Hurt, wonderful character actor.
