Allotments
« on: Sep 26, 2019, 03:28:49 PM »
Is an allotment complete if it doesn't have a shed on it with a comfy old armchair and a kettle?

Nah..Had a discussion with someone who poo-pooed the idea that an allotment needs a shed to be a proper-job allotment..

SHEILAAAA!!

ZOOONNEE, yes we had an allotment for about ten years.  We had a shed and a polytunnel.  No armchair but we had plastic chairs and used to take flasks.  One person had a lovely allotment and he had a primus stove to boil water and used to invite other gardeners for tea.  As far as I know he was the only one who could make a fresh cuppa.  Surely there isn't enough room in most sheds for an armchair?

I do miss the asparagus beds but an allotment is hard work.

Of course Allotments must have a shed!  How on earth can you have a hobby and no armchair to assist thinking! ::) ;D

My thinking entirely Firenze..Where would you go when it rains? Or for some shade on a hot day? Or for some peace and quiet to listen to the cricket on the radio? A shed is a must.

The sad thing is that we couldn't store much in our shed as occasionally bored youths would break into the sheds and do some damage.  We learned to leave the shed unlocked so ended up having to take any decent tools home which was a bit tedious loading and unloading the car.
We had an annual show which was a great success but hard work to organise.  It was a long day putting up gazebos first thing in the morning and then taking them down early evening.
