I am still smarting even today at the thought I never received the government sponsored "Cog in the Wheel! badge for taking a record amount of salvage to primary school in 1940.  Every Friday the Headmistress would read out the name of the little lad or lassie who had taken the most salvage for that week; with bated breath I waited to hear my name but all in vain!  To heck with your OBEs (Old Big 'Ead), MBEs et al, I want my Cog in the Wheel badge.  I could wear it next to my solitary TA long service medal ribbon.  I am sure HM would take a look at my complaint, I was a very patriotic little kid then and many a battleship launched, tank built and aircraft buzzing about was made of my salvage!  Perhaps I could start a national petition?
