if republic and ni, was a "normal" situation there would be no problem, what do we [uk] expect the eu to do?

I'm amazed that it's taken so long for some of the Leave lobby to see the EU's obvious true intention, ably aided & abetted by the UK Remainers who have assisted the EU at every step of the way.

The backstop has always been nothing more than an EU con trick to make it look as though a serious deal negotiation was being done.

The EU has made it very clear that it doesn't trust Ireland or the Irish, to keep things civilized.  Ireland and the UK have both been clear and have given their word that they want to find a way to do this on a matter of trust.   The EU are determined to rouse up those that do not have these good intentions [Sinn Fein for instance] and foster more unrest between the two countries.  Ireland's leaders should show some backbone because like it or not Ireland and the UK and tied to each other in various ways.  You don't see the Scandinavian block trying to run each other down - they support and cooperate with each other.  On the face of it anyway.

we all know from experience that regrettably the Ireland of Ireland is challenging, if for instance Scotland or wales joined the eu after we left, [don't get excited, only an example] there would not be a problem, hard border, get on with it.

Well if Scotland left [not Wales, I'm not letting them go] England and Wales could become a tax haven like Luxembourg, set its own corporation tax, be neutral in any wars and do what we like. Pipe dream or nightmare? Who knows.

looks like brexiteers have their wish, listening to the Italian pm. he has said boris johson told him in downing st. earlier he will leave without a deal, from what I gather the pm was told his deal would not be accepted in the present form and it sounds like he said paraphrased. "ok will leave without a deal. so will that mean its back to court?

How we get there means little. Our exit will cost much, deal or no deal so it needs to be done. The details, deals and secrets will all come out in the wash, given time, as will the secrets of Remain funding which must be colossal. I look forward to reputations being shredded on all sides when the truth finally outs.
