So now Merkel is saying. effectively, that Northern Ireland must remain part of the EU if the rest of the UK wishes to leave. Sheer, naked aggression. If we are gutless enough to give into her demand, she is well on the way to achieving - by different methods - what Germany failed. twice, to achieve. at the cost of millions of premature lives, by force of arms - domination of Europe
Mike
That is exactly what I have been saying for the past few years. Germany tried to take over Europe by force twice in the past, they then saw the light of wanting to control Europe by political and financial means.
It's in their blood that they must dominate.
France is happy to go along with it (as they did twice before) because their farmers were being given a lifeline to support their peasant way of farming - much like the Scots with their crofts. The eastern block countries see the EU as a cash cow.
It seems to me that the UK has always been treated badly by the EU but it has never refused our payments into it - they even had the nerve to keep asking us to pay more in as other countries needed it.
Breakdown of France’s finances with the EU in 2017: Total EU spending in France: € 13.505 billion. French contribution to the EU budget: € 16.234 billion.
In 2017 the UK government paid £13 billion to the EU budget, and EU spending on the UK was forecast to be £4 billion.
