Should have gone to Specsavers.
« on: Oct 17, 2019, 12:31:16 PM »

Back in June I had my regular yearly eye check..
The optician said that my eye sight had changed very little but he was concerned about Macular Degeneration in my right eye and it would need to be 'Kept an eye on'... He explained what it was and asked me did I have eczema because the two were linked.
He also recommended taking Macu Shield a one a day tablet.. Reading about the condition was very worrying... and my daughter found out that there was an injection to be had.. Not yet on the NH ..
At my yearly check- up at the doctors I explained what I had been told by the optician and the treatment available.. She had no idea but without telling me she approached an eye specialist at our local hospital for an opinion.. An appointment was made for six weeks later.
On Tuesday I saw a specialist.. I had many checks and a scan.. He told me that there was nothing wrong with my eyes and i certainly didn't have Macular Degeneration... 'Are you saying that my optician was wrong'? I asked.. 'I certainly am' he replied. ' and I will inform your doctor of this.. Also, stop taking any tablets you do not need them.. '..
I was over the moon.. I thought that I would have to give up driving and in time move to a property designed to help me with my sight loss..
The last couple of months have been bloody horrible.. It was a worry that was always at the back of my mind..
Everything will be alright in the end, and if it’s not alright, its not the end.

Oh dear Scrumpy, that must have been a worry for you.  I'm pleased you are ok though.  Are you changing to a different optician?

Firstly, it's great news but how horrible for you. So glad you're not going blind though it seems a weird thing to misdiagnose..

That's good news & the reason I don't go for eye tests.

My step-daughter was told that she was diabetic by an optician & she isn't, after weeks of worrying & tests.

I'll get a new pair of specs when I can't read small print or see to the horizon.

Great news, Scrumpy - a late friend of mine had Mac and it is pretty awful as it progresses

I will go back to the optician .. carrying the letter from hospital showing specialist results ... When I get it..
It just goes to show that diagnosis by the (experts) are not always correct..

Everything will be alright in the end, and if it’s not alright, its not the end.

Do you intend to change your Optician after confronting them with the letter? Don't think I'd trust them after that.

I'm long overdue and it's important i go. My mam had glaucoma and it can be hereditary. I've been tested before and my results came at the top of the tolerances so i was advised to get examined annually. I'll have to get round to it....

Pleased for you scrumpy,
i wonder if the optician has found a scam, a way to sell more glasses,
im suprised at his remarks as it certainly as you say must have been awful , thinking the worst based on one mans diagnosis,

it was good that you thought of having and getting a second opinion, so  I now wonder how many other people might have had the same experience, as your self,

so im pleased that you now have peace of mind, so well done you,.
