My self I have stopped using Specsaver they are far to expensive.  They charge double what you can get else where.

In the past I've had eye examinations at specsavers because they used to "brag" they had the latest and greatest test machinery. Don't forget that once you have the prescription you can go to any opticians with it. Like you i found specsavers to be well expensive, i ended up at asda opticians, great choice of specs at a fair price. Would definitely recommend.

I don't like Specsaver either.  They seem to start off with a reasonable cost and then keep adding things on.  We have an excellent local optician so I get my test there but go to Asda to buy my glasses.  I feel mean but Asda are very good value.
I was just going to post this and found that Floydian has written almost the same thing.  Oh well, I'll do it anyway.

Boots opticians get all the toys out the box with the eye tests but the specs are over priced & in some cases of poor quality. I returned mine for a full refund.

Specsavers have a contract to do all DVLA related eye checks. A diabetic friend was sent to them for a visual acuity and field of vision test. He wasn't happy as they made an obviously worrying situation into a stressful one.

I go to an excellent independent after Specsavers's ones fell apart in six months. Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole!

I've had my last two pairs from Specsavers and no complaints.  I have my eyes tested at an independent optician but go to Specsavers for the frames because they have more choice  - plus they're cheaper than the independent.

The optician I went to was Vision Express.. I never saw the same optician twice . They seem to have travelling ones that do different days in different shops..
I am glad that my doctor was on the ball and wanted another opinion..

Specsavers do home visits for eye testing for the elderly and disabled.
I don't know  of any other company that does that.
If the Buck stops here how can the Doe go all the way ?

I'm glad your eyes are ok Scrumpy.  A few years ago I went blind in my right eye within an afternoon. I'd seen some floaters, and as I was walking home they multiplied until I couldn't see out of my eye at all.   I rang 111 and they advised A&E, eventually it was checked, but it was Sunday night and there were no eye specialists there.

The next day I went to the opthalmic emergency dept and was referred to a consultant.  I'd had a retinal bleed. No reason why, it just happened.  It was scary, but he said it was operable.  Long story short, it was repaired, I wore an eye patch while it mended, and I got my eyesight back.  I was warned that a cataract was likely, and that too was eventually removed, leaving the vision in that eye better than ever.  I've nothing but praise for the consultant, but it was a scary experience.

I've had lots of glasses from Specsavers, I like the two for one and the choice.

Very. I was worried that it would happen to the other eye at the same time.  Growing old is not for wimps! 😏
