I'm glad your eyes are ok Scrumpy.  A few years ago I went blind in my right eye within an afternoon. I'd seen some floaters.

I had a floater a few weeks ago after I whacked my head on a high-level kitchen unit but it's cleared itself up.

Nothing like you went through, but quite annoying while it lasted though.

The last floater I had was a bugger to get rid of..Had to break it up before it'd flush.

Over years I had four new sets of spectacles from Specsavers. On two occasions I had to have them replaced- readers which required me to hold the reading material about eight inches away, and distance specs which made everything over about 100 yards away blurred. They were replaced and the replacements were fine, but I had had enough and switched to Vision Express. So far so good

Have you ever considered varifocals Dave? Once you get used to them they're great. One pair does it all, distance and reading....

I did try them briefly, but just couldn't get on with them, and didn't fancy spending the quite considerable cost to see if I would adjust. I do have a couple of pairs of bifocals for the TV so that I can watch and read or whatever during adverts to avoid having to keep changing specs

I have always had varifocals and never had any problems with them. Never fancied bifocals or even tried them.

Me too, although the reading bit is very weak.  I read in bed without my glasses, its my long and middle distance vision thats poor, although it has improved with age!

When I got my first Varifocals I was told that my eyes would have to adjust but I kept them on & drove back home with no problems & I never did have to adjust to using them.

I was  tempted to try contact lenses but all the various rumours of eye damage through oxygen starvation & microbial keratitis, corneal ulcers etc put me off.

Back in the 70s I remember we had 'hydrophillic' lenses. I left mine in a motel somewhere. Very uncomfortable and had a habit of getting lost in my left eye. I'll stay with my specs..
