I also have the Malwarebytes one at the moment but I've yet to find a free one that I like. I've tried a lot of them.

I pay £25 or so a year for Bullguard. They also have a good free one.

I use Win Defender which works fine. Why pay for something you don't need ?Antivirus companies thrive on people knowing no different.

That's a damned patronising thing to say.

Why is that ? In all the years I have used Windows I have never had a problem with any virus. So why pay good money for something you don't possibly need ?
Paying for a antivirus program doesn't make you any safer in my opinion.

Exactly. It's your opinion. I hope you never have cause to revise it.

m. Me too. !
Never ever had a problem yet.
You have your opinion zoony & I have mine. Now we are both happy.
Is it a problem to you that we have different points of view on this.?
I'm happy with W Defender. Please tell me what is wrong with that?
Or don't you know.?

I have no problem with your choice whatsoever. It's yours to make, as is mine. My problem was as originally stated. I found your crack about 'people knowing no different' patronising and still do. Put me down as a belt and braces man.

I only had defender and I did have a virus that went through all of my folders and files...it took over my google page and installed bing which I couldn't get rid of...I downloaded malwarebytes full version ..it was free for 13 days...it got rid of the virus  which defender didn't  and got my computer back to normal

I don't think that Mick intended to be patronising as he's stating a fact, which is an important one for any guests on the site who are thinking of paying for antivirus protection.

It's a personal choice & but the fact remains that a paid antivirus program doesn't do anything that can't be done for free.

Bing is part of Microsoft's Windows & can't be got rid of, it can only be disabled, which is a simple thing to do.

I use several search engines, including Bing, & just change them as & when I want to.

All that Malwarebytes did was remove the Bing toolbar & reset Google as the default search engine.

From what you describe you unwittingly installed a browser hijacker.

I had absolutely no intention of patronising anyone.
I restate my comment that some people know no different.

Yeah me too, I use ESET antivirus, and it may or may not give me  extra protection, but for the piddling annual fee, there is always  a chance it could save some future agro
