It certainly was a diversion from the original H. G. Wells script. I watched the first episode in anticipation of a good modern remake and was utterly dissapointed. What a load of tripe.

The original monochrome version was superb, the Tom Cruise version was acceptable if one ignored the americanisation. This version is the pits and I would not waste time on future episodes.

I've just watched the first episode and enjoyed it for what it was/is. I'm not sure it's fair to compare a tv series to a feature film. The film condenses their version into a couple of hours, a tv series has to think longer term and has several layers of sub-plot going at the same time. It's also written for a target audience who have probably not read the book, might've seen the film but need to be attracted by the same things that are commercially successful modern examples.
It's interesting that it portrays the era in which it was written in a somewhat exaggerated way, something Steam Punk-ish about it..Contrasting that with the apocalyptic future is a nice touch.
I must admit to puzzlement over the scene when they're frantically searching for the dog and she's gasping and breathless with a fag in her hand!
All in all I enjoyed it. Good, daft fun, and look forward to the next episode..

Another one I have watched several times - should have made it clear I was referring to Torah, Torah, Torah! Then there is Pearl Harbour - a good example of how not to make such a film

Why do they bother to make such rubbish when George Pal made
War of the Worlds way back in the 1950's?
That was a true classic and I'm sure HGW would have
enjoyed it had he been around.

I gave Episode one a go and thought it was not too bad.  What a disappointment Episode Two proved however, filmed in "darkovision", I could not discern the characters or who was saying what to whom or what about.  Whether I shall bother with the final episode, I know not!

Why be so dismissive? You like the old one cos it had an impact on you and you were young. This one is designed and produced to appeal to a young family audience now, not us old codgers..Not only that but it's only shown two episodes..Good grief!

Whilst I think about it, I do like Vienna Blood, but not an entirely new idea.

I've not looked at that yet but it looks eminently watchable from the blurb..
Watching The Irishman at present, trying to make up my mind about re-younging old actors by CGI..

Not the worst film I've seen and it tells a story that I've been curious about for many years. To those with problems with muttering, you'll need the subtitles for the last 10 mins or so. Jury's still out on the re-younging thing..

Well, that's it.  I've seen the final episode of WotW.  What rubbish!  Quite apart from  a completely insane PC rant against England's colonial past and the killing off of two out of the three main male characters and the triumph of the strong stoical female lead who only survived by the bravery of her male co-leads, she then discovers a means of killing the aliens in a clear allegorical nod towards global warming.  Words somehow fail me when I attempt to describe the travesty that this short series has presented.  It will of course be swallowed whole by the young and brainwashed.

I saw a wee bit of that the other night, it was the woman in the scene, I knew her voice and so I studied her for a moment. I'm sure she is in Poldark as Demelza.
