Chrimbo

Where did this stupid bloody word come from? What's wrong with Christmas? It really, really irritates me - I view it as an expression of total ignorance

Totally agree Dave. There's a few things like that (mainly abbreviations) that annoy me. There's a young woman i talk to and yesterday she said she was going to saino's. Sainsbury's apparently....
"Unbelievable, Jeff...."

I think I first heard this from the Beatles, maybe a Liverpool thing?

I use Crimbo particularly when texting, it's just a short version.

Why? It's shorter - but has no relationship, so can't be an abbreviation - why not use (not that I like it much) Xmas which is even shorter and has a clear relationship - i.e., Cross - Christian

It's something I never thought about until you posted your dislike of the word.     8)

I have never heard of Crimbo... Mind you, there are so many abbreviations.. I’m sure there are aliens taking over our planet and a new language is spreading.

I think John Lennon sang about Crimbo years ago, perhaps that's where it started ?

I think you're right. Certainly northern.

I'm certain it's a scouser word.

I live in Merseyside and have heard it used round here.
