65" TV
« on: Nov 27, 2019, 10:36:50 PM »
A PC World advert this evening was offering a reduced price on a 65" TV. What sort of room would one need for a screen that size? Mine are 40", about 12 feet from my chair in one room, 15 or so in the other and I can't imagine wanting a screen that big

Our main TV is a 55" model.

What's your viewing distance? We used to have a couple of 24" sets - going up to 40" was a huge improvement

Exactly 8 feet, I've just measured it.

The recommended distance is 9 feet but as it's a 3D TV the 3D effect is better if we're closer.

Sometimes I'll sit even closer if I play some of my 3D roller coaster video clips.

Looks as though a bigger screen wouldn't overpower me then, but I'll wait until one of them fails - hopefully not too soon, they're only 4 years old

To make your TVs last longer you need to turn down the backlighting to about 75% as the LEDs will last far longer.

Its all down to how far away you sit, I started having problems reading  the EPG, not practical to sit closer, so have just changed my 58 inch Panny  for a 65 inch OLED , well chuffed with picture quality.

My TV is quite old now, it's a Plasma (I think) a Panasonic 42" so when I replace it I'll stick to this size as it suits my room size.  The TV upstairs is only a 32" only problem with that one is I sometimes struggle to read the programme guide without my specs   ;D    Apart from choosing screen size, what is the best type of telly to go for  ?

We threw our television out when we were in St. Andrews (2003) and have not
looked at one since.

In the words of my grandfather, "I prefer the wireless because the pictures are better there."

Although, to be honest, I don't bother with the wireless when we have about 25,000 books
in our house to keep us occupied. In fact I'm making a list of the books I want in my coffin when the
time comes as I don't think I'll get through all of them before then.   :)

Is that a literal figure? If so - where do you house them? My late brother had just over 5,500 and they virtually took over the house
