I feel for Australia, suffering as it is in murderous weather and apocalyptic fires. Just listened to a heart-breaking account by a weeping veteran fire-fighter who has spent 2 days trying to save his family home and just had to give up and abandon it..

Well they won't need much charcoal on the barbecues.

I lived in Benoni S.Africa for a while and when we came back it was winter here.   I remember we sat on the aircraft bus from plane to Airport and just laughed like fools as the cold and wet welcome home hit us....beautifully!

Our neighbour is very fond of Portugal and goes there two or three times a year - and is always amused to see the locals muffled up to the eyebrows in temperatures that see the tourists in T-shirts and shorts!

In this country with few aircons I prefer the cold to the sort of heat we've been getting at times in summer recently. It can even make a trip to a supermarket rather pleasant sometimes.
So long and thanks for all the fish

Couldn't handle that much heat, but those fires are scary.

So the Prime Minister buggers off to Hawaii for a holiday...Whatever made him think that was acceptable at such a time?

I've just been watching the continuing saga of the Australian bush fires.

Being a logical & hopefully reasonably intelligent person, I have to ask why in God's name to the Aussies build houses that are surrounded by trees & shrubbery.

Same reason we build new estates on flood plains..Too much money to be made at someone else's risk, not to.
