Queen Victoria's Knickers.
« on: Jan 18, 2020, 04:45:36 PM »
Apparently the auction world is all agog because there's a pair of Queen Victoria's knickers going under the hammer.

Now straight away I could see that they'd been devalued because they'd been washed so that will deter a lot of would-be purchasers.

I saw something about that and was gob-smacked at the prices. Not that long ago a pair of her keks was just a few hundred quid. Mind you, there were other items of clothing etc so..

There were lots of items of her clothing, boots, stockings, but they have to put the draws centre stage, typical.

Never mind poor old Queen Vic.  I read about one of our current celebs who is up in arms because her old nicks are appearing on e-bay.  Better not mention the lady's name but she was holidaying after undergoing financial probs.

Wonder how someone got hold of them, robbed her washing line, or some other explaination?

I think you need to reread Diasi's post regarding which condition is likely to secure the best price.....

She had dozens of pairs made at a time, all monogrammed and many must have remained unworn as she grew fatter. I remember reading/hearing something about her insistence on fresh linens etc..

I doubt a pair that's never been worn will be sold for very much.

Even if you could afford to buy Her Majesty's knickers, what can you possibly do with them. Can't wear them, all you can do is put them in a glass case, take them out and feel them from time to time I suppose. And suppose they turned out to be a forgery?

That's why they should have been sold as worn so that a DNA test could have been done to establish provenance.

Apparently they are expected to fetch £thousands so that's not to be sniffed at.
