Grandparents
« on: Mar 19, 2020, 04:56:49 PM »
All schools close tomorrow for many weeks. Just how many will have to look after their grandchildren to allow their sons and daughters to carry on working. Keeping children isolated for weeks on end away from their school friends an impossible. I don't have that problem, but would have found it very hard not to help my children out even at the risk of the virus.

Some grandparents will be well below 70 and not in an at risk category.  My children, for whom I babysit occasionally, have cancelled their outings for the forseeable.   Two grandchildren will be at home, but their parents are already working from home.  The other will probably continue with school, mum is a nurse.  I'll miss seeing them, but it makes sense.

I've always thought it made sense to miss seeing them.

That's sad. To the day she died Veronica (and I) would have loved to be able to have seen more of our granddaughter. Sadly, the were often a long way away - for the first couple of years of her life on Spain, then successively 280, 500, 500 miles away

Thank you for the days, the days you gave me.

I can see it being sad for those who miss seeing them, but it isn't sad for me.

I've got one that I've never seen.

I have 3 grandchildren they live about about twenty minutes drive away in Finchley one is 19 and working, the other two 16 years and 13 years finished school yesterday will not return for the duration.

They are well able to look after themselves at home when their parents are at work

Our oldest grandchild is 13 and there are two younger ones.  Unlike my husband and me, our children didn't start producing offspring til well into their thirties.  I was over 60 when the first one was born.

I only have the two but both are quite grown up as I was in my 50s when they were born. Not seen much of them since I moved up here, only when I'm down in Perth or they come for a visit, as they all were this W/E. But it's been postponed for now. They do text me a lot though.

I became a grandmother for the first time two months ago  (I was a late starter):)  It's a wonderful feeling when you first see your grandchild, I can't explain it.    Unfortunately I can only see the baby on video clips - for now.
I'll be so glad when this pandemic is over, I'm missing out on cuddles.  :)
