The viral death numbers from Italy are very interesting
Friday 627
Saturday 793
Sunday 651
Monday 602
from a peak on Saturday there's been 2 days of decline just 3 weeks after Italian lockdown began.
Does this mean Italian Lockdown is working?

I would hope the lockdown has had the required effect.

Well it's a bit soon to be sure but those figures suggest that the rate of increase has certainly decreased  which is what the lockdown is supposed to achieve and if adhered to obviously should work.

It's that little if which is the fly in the ointment of course and the story about the flight of students from universities in the North back to their homes in the South could have spoiled the success for a while.

Supporting leave is not racism. Don't let others suggest it is.

We need to see at least 10 days worth of figures to have any idea at all I think which was why my reply to your earlier one about the small but steady decline started out with "it's a bit soon".

Maybe the fleeing students will make the numbers valueless. Only the numbers here are what are really important to us apart from hoping other countries become safe too. Our numbers are probably a month off though as the infected but not showing any symptoms yet is a complete unknown and will have doubtless increased thanks to last weekend's madness.

Yes it too early to say
One needs be sure they collect the data from  every source before they compile the national figures.  For example if some hospitals send their Monday and Tuesday stats on Tuesday, it will hide any curve flattening effects.

Of the 80 odd deaths yesterday a quarter came from a single London hospital. The same one that ran out of intensive care beds a few days back. There is always going to be somewhere with most deaths but that seems extraordinary to me and there must be some underlying reason but I doubt it will ever come to light.

An hot spot for infections might be a simple answer.

A very ethnic area, not too far from Heathrow, wonder if that could be a reason, just an idea.  I said on another thread this hospital couldn't find my dad a bed the night he died in 1996, always been  overstretched.

A very ethnic area
I'm not sure why that could be a special factor given that compared to most of the UK the whole of London is. I just checked Google and got...

At the 2011 census, London had a population of 8,173,941. Of this number 44.9% were White British. 37% of the population were born outside the UK, including 24.5% born outside of Europe.

I doubt the 9 years since has tilted that balance towards British
