I knew what you meant Raven.  My mum had a 'message bag' that she carried when going for her messages.  Like other words and phrases of my younger days, its been dropped from my vocabulary seeing as I've lived 2/3 of my life in England.


When I first moved I asked for plain lemonade. Its just lemonade.  I buy sweets, not sweeties.  And they say scone in a very strange way down here.. 😉

My mother used to call it "going for a message" or "running an errand" when she meant going to the shops.

When I first moved to Manchester as a mature student I was amazed to hear people talk of "washing the pots" rather than the dishes or doing the washing up. Also making "a brew" rather than having a cup of tea.

He likely came from Yorkshire, it's where I first heard it..A 20 cup, aluminium teapot..." Let it mash awhile son..".. I had no idea. It was one of the first things I learned when I started psychiatric nursing...

Could well have been. One thing about the RAF was the wide range of folk with whom  you came into contact.

Six days a week. Clock in 7.00am. Kettle on.
