One surprise
« on: Mar 30, 2020, 09:29:23 AM »
I don't know if it is cause and effect, but since the crisis started our local Shell filling station has reduced its prices across the board by 11p a litre. I'm a bit surprised - obviously they can expect less custom at the moment, but their nearest competitor is about 6 miles away.

Morrisons reduced their prices by 12p a litre last Monday.

Cost of crude oil has dropped considerably...
I started out with nothing and still have most of it left.

I saw that the price of diesel had plummeted to well below the price of petrol when I went shopping at Tesco last Wednesday. I assumed that the collapse in economic activity and travel across the world with all the lockdown had left a big surplus in the supply chain so the price had dropped.
So long and thanks for all the fish

Good news. They'll be putting the council tax down then.

There is an oil  price war going between the Russians and the Saudis. Each wanting to be the dominant player player in the oil market.
That's why your petrol is so cheap.

Thats assuming anyone is going to pay a non essential bill for facilities like parks, swimming baths, libraries, daycare and sports centers they cant use for months.

Everything at the minute is pretty crude, and an awful lot is simply a mystery.

This arm oil wrestle between the Saudis and Russions has been going on for months - it is only now that it is showing at the pumps.

It really doesn't matter if fuel was 25p a litre you can't use much of it as you should be tucked up at home if over 70 for the next 3 months at least.
Everyone 70 and over in my neck of the woods have put their cars in the garage and locked it up for the foreseeable future

How are they getting food? Our car is in use once or twice a week to go shopping. We're over 70 but not in the highest risk group so no choice.
