It was a serious question, it seems it is so people can see them from the sea as the colouring stands out, but they don't explain why they want to see a lighthouse in the daytime.

The bit I read said it was for identification. I only read that far.
Presumably a different banding pattern. I think the flashes were at different timings at night for the same reason but they don't have the light on at night.
Presumably if your navigation skills were a bit naff but you'd got your trusty lighthouse identification book and you spotted one you'd know where you were without having to wait til the light came on.
