Ive only had a hedgehog once. I nearly stepped on it because it was right by my kitchen door one dark night when I went to throw some scraps for the foxes. It was quite a small one (about 5 inches) so I assume it was a youngster. I left some scraps and a saucer of water by the step and next day the scraps were gone but the hedgehog never returned to the best of my knowledge. Perhaps it was frightened of the foxes and cats. Or maybe it had strayed in from another garden where its parents used to visit.

There is a business park behind my house with an iron fence and thick undergrowth separating it from the houses. Sometimes I hear the most hellish noises coming from out back late at night - sounds like someone being murdered.  Whether cats or foxes I have no idea.

Perhaps even zombies!

I am not going around there to find out.

I'm pleased to report that our hedgehog home has a hibernating resident.

I read somewhere that we shouldn't buy an Aldi hedgehog house because the spines can get caught in it.

A friend has a hedgehog family in her garden and was threatening to buy a camera.  I must ask if she did.

This is the one we bought.

We might buy a trail camera & put it near to the hedgehog house, although we have the camera where we put the food so when it wakes up that's the first place it will go to.

You'd make a racquet too if your partner was covered in spikes.  ;D

As it happens I have heard them.
So long and thanks for all the fish

When the hedgehog started visiting & we began feeding it we had to make a commitment to look after him / her.

Well the hedgehog's out of hibernation so we've decided to buy another hedgehog house to use as a feeding station which will stop the visiting cat from eating all the food.

It also means I won't have to be up all night monitoring who's eating the food.

We bought this one with the feeding starter pack

That's one spoilt little hedgehog.  I hope he appreciates it.

I think it is brilliant... You might get a family of little ones.. !!

Do hedgehogs stick with one partner.. ? Do they bed down together.. ?
Everything will be alright in the end, and if it’s not alright, its not the end.
