fears & phobias,
« on: Aug 07, 2020, 07:22:56 AM »
i think there are many people who have a fear or a phobia, about some thing or other,  some may worry over trifle things, spiders or insects, others , most likely money paying bills etc , for others it could be possibly trying to get away for a nice holiday abroad.  even holidays in the U.K,and of course the dreaded virus spreading around the world.??

Q; so do you have any fears, or phobias, and will you share your thoughts with us,

My fear is of losing my independence and privacy and ending up in one of those bl**y awful care(less) homes. I would prefer to kill myself.

I am not scared of spiders (apart from tarantulas) most insects, mice, rats, snakes (love reptiles) speaking in public or flying.  However heights do make me feel uncomfortable.

I dont even like being this tall (5 ft 8 ins)  ;D ;D ;D

Stuck in Motorway holdup for hours, dentists, but worse of all " politicians " and the constant damage they do to the lives of us all.

Being stuck on a tram between stations. They had a breakdown once and a tram was stuck between stations for a couple of hours. Let's just say there are no toilets on trams and I'm an old man. :-X
There are none at the stations either but at least it gives you a chance.

Dentists.  I've had a horrendous time with dental problems, a back tooth out in my case has required my gum to be cut to remove the roots, then stitched up. Not just once either. I looked after my teeth, regular dentist appointments as a child, but from my twenties onwards have had major issues.  One extraction left me with a black eye, it looked as if I'd been punched.

Even sitting in the waiting room makes me shudder.  I've paid for deep sedation which is safer than a GA the last twice I've had procedures.  I didn't feel a thing, but its specialist and expensive.

GA was knocked on the head by a cowboy foreign dentist working here who either killed or nearly killed somebody.
I recall a GA by injection where they got you to count backwards. You'd come out of it still counting after the job was done.

Doesn't mention "foreign dentist" but my recollection says it was one that tipped us into a ban.

I've mostly had good dentists, some really good.  It is the hygienists that I dread.  If your gums normally don't bleed they will find a way to make you look like a vampire when they have finished.  I also get the feeling that I am letting a hairdresser, manicurist for some other beauty professional, poke about in my mouth with sharp instruments.

A toad at the feet can be fatal. Let us not forget the pobble who has no toes.

Wasps can be nasty things. I was stung on the lip by one as a kid and my face swelled up. I can understand people being scared of them.

I read somewhere that fear of spiders outstrips all other phobias. If I find them in the bath I usually get them onto a piece of paper and put them outside. I never kill them.

I awoke one morning convinced a model airplane had crashed onto my balcony when we lived by the coast. The noise was consistent with a 20cc engine it was that loud. A swarm of  Giant African Hornets had come off a 'container' ship apparently when it docked. It refused a notice to quit order, delivered with good intent by a frying pan and proceeded to directly attack me. No McEnroe with this utensil I retreated and shut the door. An hour on it was still there and was showing signs of becoming a squatter. They target bee hives and are wanton killers with an extremely potent sting. Its body was the same size as my thumb and the eyes were really sinister. A revolting and aggressive thing it took half a can of Raid to dumb it enough to drop down and be ultimately dispatched with a club hammer!
