Got the stage where it says a reset will delete all existing information on the phone, which would lose stuff I would prefer to keep - messages between Veronica and family and the like, but thanks for the thought

According to Nokia you can reset the 3310 without losing data so I would have thought it applied to other models produced around the same time as the 3310, but as the guide says, you can back up the phone from the settings menu.

It'll be a good idea to check where the text messages are stored as they can often be either on the phone or on the SIM card.

If your telephone has a place to connect a USB cable you should be able to off-load all your information onto a computer so you
can reset the thing and then restore all your stuff from the computer.
