Nokia phone driving me mad - help please
« on: Sep 11, 2020, 01:20:06 PM »
For sentimental reasons, and also to provide a back-up should I need one at any time, I still have Veronica's mobile which is a Nokia on a monthly contract. Finding that there are some photos on it which I would like on my computer I have tried to transfer them, but without success. Two problems. Firstly, plugging the phone into a USB port on the computer it simply isn't recognised so, thinking I could get round that I have been trying to email photos - again so far without success and the really irritating thing is that you don't do some sort of actin, it switches it self off after about 30 seconds! It is fully charged. I've looked through settings and can't find anything that determines how long it will wait before switching off - any ideas, please?
Mike

My flabber was never so gasted! After fiddling around try to get pictures off the Nokia onto this W10 machine, in desperation I plugged it into my old Vista machine - and it was recognised, no problem, and I have been able to move the pictures over without a hitch.
I would still like to know how to stop the Nokia switching off so quickly, though
Mike
PS - isn't W10 supposed to be an improvement on what went before? 🤬🤬

You can access Nokia phones with W10 but you need to install the software which includes the necessary driver. You would have done that on the Vista machine years ago.

By turning off do you mean going flat? Batteries are still sold on eBay and almost certainly Amazon. If you just mean the keyboard locking after a period of idleness there is probably a setting. If you can't find it try Google.

No, battery is fully charged, but it turns itself off if left idle for more than 30 seconds or so and to be switched back on. Now I have sorted the pictures it’s not so much of a problem, but I will do as you suggest.
Thanks

The screen or the entire phone? If it's the entire phone it sounds like the phone software has a fault. There might be a reset button or key combination you could try.

The actual phone switches off. Press the on/off button and you can feel it come into life and it shows the start up screen

I know the feeling! Fortunately, now that I have transferred the pictures, the phone will only be needed as a backup should anything happen to my normal phone.

Better hope the emergency can be fixed quickly  ;)

I bought an emergency Nokia all plastic brick for about £10 some time ago to leave in the car. Then the £1 a month contract I put it on so I didn't need to worry about PAYG credit vanishing and the phone being blocked went up without notice to £5. Luckily I noticed immediately and cancelled.

At least it is OK for phone calls because, of course, something is happening all the time

Have you tried a factory reset?

Go to Menu > Restore Factory Settings > Settings only > Type in your passcode

I'll try but this was Veronica's phone - if she had a passcode no idea what it might have been
