Estimate the speed
« on: Sep 27, 2020, 03:30:31 PM »
This car was parked at the roadside and was hit by another car, it was pushed onto the pavement into a garden wall with the resulting damage. What speed would you say would cause that impact damage?

15 mph. Amazing how much damage even low speed impacts with immovable objects cause

How heavy was the vehicle that hit him? Was his handbrake on etc..Aren't modern cars designed differently? Replaceable panels etc..

I'd concur with it being a low speed impact.

Hard to tell but it takes a good to knock to destroy the suspension & drive shaft.

No damage to the glass or interior, and still upright,  my guess is low speed where the car was pushed against something solid like a wall.

I've seen that suspension damage done to a car just outside my house in a village by somebody clipping the kerb. 30 limit so I doubt they were exceeding 75.

That one though I'd certainly say less than 30.

It could be a crash-for-cash where the car was already damaged & it's been deliberately parked facing the traffic with the wheel turned to full lefthand lock & its been hit by a scrapper that drove straight back to the scrapyard.

Really surprised at these estimates. In truth it was hit by a Ford focus which the driver had lost control of after negotiating a bend. the focus was completly destroyed. Three youths allthough reported injured ran off.

That certainly equates with my view of the damage.

Perhap a picture of the Focus? It probably just caught the Audi a glancing blow which is why the damage is fairly light.

I think we were discussing the Audi in the picture when we said a low speed. It probably did not reach 10 mph. We didn't even know a Ford was involved.
