We have spiders who live in our battery operated gutter lights & when I change the batteries some of the spiders dangle down on a thread & then climb back up when I've replaced the battery.

It's almost as though they know they could be squashed by the battery if they didn't move.

I dont mind spiders and try to catch and save them if I find them in the way. I would give a tarantula a wide berth!

Many years ago when I was into travelling around in a range rover adventure holidays a member of our party had to be hospitalised for several days with a bite from a poisonous spider. The affected limb swelled up like a football.

They must be able to bite - how else could they feed? How serious the bite can be depends on the size of the spider, and upon what it decides to exercise its biting ability

Tarantulas are quite docile & rarely bite unless threatened & can't get away.

Their bite, if they inject venom which they don't always do, is on the same level as a wasp sting.

As a pet they take quite a bit of of looking after & can live up to 20 years.
