Shaken, not stirred
« on: Oct 13, 2020, 10:33:52 PM »
Despite being a bit of a pedant myself, one piece of pedantry, perhaps fussiness would be a better description, always grates with me in the Bond books and films. As I think most followers of the genre will recall, 007’s favourite tipple is a vodka martini, shaken, not stirred. Has anyone, I wonder, ever conducted a blind tasting to see if they could tell the difference?

Yes Mike. It was declared an affectation at best. Can't remember who did it..popular radio food programme no doubt..( I do wish this bloody spell-check were English rather than American..It's so irritating when it tries to correct my spellings!!)

What fascinates me is the predictive text on the iPad. Beats me how it knows what I am going to type before I do!

It's not all bad being a grumpy.. ;D

I loathe and detest that predictive text, can't get it off any phone or tablet fast enough.

I can take it or leave it. It’s not on the computers, and I actually prefer using them, but sitting in the lounge with a coffee, the tablet is convenient, although I have quite often had to hit ‘modify’ when I see what appears isn’t what I meant!

Many years ago a German colleague was killed in a motoring accident.   News of this was sent to an American friend who put it through Google translate and forwarded it to me...

The resultant email informed me that our colleague "mortally unsuccessful is".  It would have been funny if it wasn't so tragic.   More to the point, it should have been corrected before being distributed.

I don't use predictive text on my laptop - just "spell check" with a UK dictionary.
You'll have had your tea.

Even the spellcheck throws the odd wobbly. Somehow my name of 'Mike' appeared as 'Ikea' a few posts back
