Looks like I will be spending Christmas on my own this year house sitting in a wonderful old house in Cornwall. It will be a chance to get some reading and writing done when Im not out walking the dogs.

We don't do Christmas, if it's a nice day we pack up food and head off with the clydes for several hours while it's light. Can't leave untill after ten because of jobs to be done with the animals first. Back around 3pm and after seeing to the clydes we have a nice turkey/roast beef dinner with all the trimmings. Then settle in front of the TV and catch up on recorded things. That's been our Christmas for years.

That sounds a great day Raven.  I'll admit to cooking dinner and spending Christmas day in my PJ's on a couple of occasions.

Sounds idyllic
Mike 👍👍

We enjoy it, so do the horses. But it can get blooming cold and wet as the weather turns so quickly here.

Its a bit up in the air at present but the family are determined not to spend the winter in this country. They have a lovely home, 3 boisterous dogs and 2 cats. Part of the house will be closed off while I'm there so I dont have to clean it all. Just do a little dusting and air out the rooms for when they return. There will still be plenty for me to do as the dogs need to be walked daily (weather permitting) but also time for my writing, reading and other interests. I find that animals can sometimes be much better company than people and less demanding.

While completely agreeing I will say, in their favour, that people usually walk themselves.. if they can be bothered..

Heard the phrase 'Urinary leash' for the first time today..ie, how far one can go without needing the 'facilities', as it were..

In Victorian times there were no public toilets for women until the big department stores and hotels opened.

It was a way of controlling women and keeping them close to the home. The only public loos were for men and they were pretty seedy places.

From what I hear, some of them still are.

I thought most of them were closed at the moment.
