hi someone spent £3 on a bag of eating chestnuts.... any advice?

My wife got all nostalgic and bought a big bag for a couple of quid or so last year. I note that we still have them....

Chestnuts should be cooked in the ash can of a nice open fire.

£3 for a pound of chestnuts is dear but similar to the price of other exotic nuts.

From memory you should poke holes in them or maybe score them with a knife. I have no idea what herself had planned because sfaik they don't cook well on radiators.

Yes I had forgotten about the holes. One method is to use a skewer.

I've never eaten roasted chestnuts - but I remember that there used to be a little stall in the pedestrianised part of Guildford High Street selling them when I worked there back in the 70s - smelt tempting!
