Eating dictionaries doesn't sound overly interesting to me.

I can indeed!

All those crosswords I did with my mum have at last proved useful.  🤓

The i newspaper is one of the more interesting crosswords around Mac..I've never finished one on the day..and I don't mean the easy one on the puzzle page :)

I agree.  My second best cryptic crossword is the i.  When the Independent folded I was pleased that they didn't dumb it down with the i.  My top one is of course The Times, mainly because their clues are always accurate in terms of the answer being a verb, noun, plural of either, past tense, etc.etc.etc.*

I tend to fare badly on some such as the Telegraph because I lack the university education enjoyed by and freely used by many of the setters..

Mum got the Sunday Express every week and we did the Skeleton where you have to fill in the squares.

My OH and I had friends who bought the Times and did well with the crossword,  very difficult although I liked the anagrams.  I haven't done a crossword for years. Sudoku and online Scrabble and chess take up enough time!

I've done them in the past. The simple ones are just that but with the cryptic ones you need to get to know the style of whoever set it. I've not done one in years.

Can’t remember the context, but in a book two characters were discussing a course of action which number two thought no problem.
Number one ‘is it difficult?’
Number two ‘ about as difficult as a Sun crossword’

I've never done a Sun crossword Mike so have no reason to knock it but I suspect it would be a different proposition to the i newspaper cryptic..

From memory the Sun does or at least did many years ago have two sets of clues for the same square. I think they were different answers too.

No point in us disagreeing about something you don't do K.. ;D
My afternoons can be long and the TV has become an ornament, so I listen to the radio while I read and try to complete three crossword puzzles from, different newspapers. Before I know it(ish) it's evening and another dull day has passed..Sorry, don't mean to be melodramatic about it, it's the way things are but they could be far worse.

I am quite busy at the moment trying to sort out a raft of information regarding the sale of my late sister’s house - something of a nightmare, but once that is done, probably three or four days, it will be back to the slow passing of time
