Vaccine by Christmas?
« on: Oct 17, 2020, 09:02:56 AM »
New news, but I'm surprised to find it hiding away on the Scotland page of teh BBC News website. I would have thought that it deserved prominence. If you look at the article, you will that initial supplies will be limited - always supposing it actually arrives, of course, so decisions need to be made as to who gets it first. My vote would be for front-line staff in the NHS, care homes, and, depending on level of perceived risk, which I cannot judge, folk in constant interaction with large numbers of the public.

Didn't somebody say the civil service had ordered it in tankers to get it quicker and save 2% but it will take £37 quadzillion to get it put in glass vials so it can be used?  I suppose folk could be given straws and told to take a tiny sip instead.

It should be given to the general population first.   If you prevent people catching it in the first place,  it will take a load off the NHS and other "front line" workers.  Maybe then the NHS can get back to treating all those who have been pushed aside because of Covid.

In the first instance, according to that report, there won’t be enough available for the general population

Looks like I may be away spending Christmas alone this year. My lovely clients in Cornwall are intending to depart before Christmas and spend at least two months outside the UK and want me to house sit their cats and dogs for them. Ive never been away at Christmas but it doesn't seem like its going to be much fun in this country this year.

I was thinking they could fill  the syringe out of an optic. I'd like to see that. Of course you would best get there early while the needle was still sharp.

I dunno what all the fuss is about. Domestos £1 a bottle, own brand only 40p. 99% of household germs. Sorted.

Are not the locals in Cornwall and other tourist areas rather hostile to anyone they see as "tourists".

The Mail has a story today about a vaccine already in production. Presumably still waiting on regulatory approval though as that would be bigger news.

At least it seems to be in bottles and not in an old petrol tanker as early reports suggested  ;D

I won't be volunteering for a jab myself though. At least not early on. It's a religious matter for me being a devote coward and the rather curtailed efficacy and safety process before being licenced.
