We have a family of four Magpies and I hate each n every one of the bloody things. Apart from their viciousness and destruction of other birds, they have ripped up a lot of my garden. We bought all new turf last June and I spent a good few days preparing the ground and laying the new grass. Those bloody birds have it all ripped up again, they just wait untill us and/or the dog go inside and they swoop in.

Pigeons have a built in larder (called a crop) and they can hoover up pretty much everything you put out on a bird table. The smaller birds that really make food vanish and won't be bullied off if they turn up in numbers are startlings. I've not seen them at home for a while but we used to get a gang of twenty or more clearing our bird table.
So long and thanks for all the fish

It must be very hard to maintain a bowling green. Everything on legs digs the grass up, it seems.
