There was a similar guy used to come down our road in the late 40s. Can’t remember when he stopped. We also used to see a French onion seller on a bicycle

I believe rags and bones were collected for the Workhouse. Bones being a component of glue and rags used in paper making, the inmates had to grind  the bones and tear the rags. Before my time.

He also used to sharpen knives and scissors.
That was one of the offerings of gypsies when I was a lad. If you were fool enough to give them a knife they'd scrape it on the kerbstone a few times and expect some coppers.

where i live in Goa a guy comes round once or twice a year with a cycle contraption and a carburandum stone to sharpen you knives and scissors..
and did you know that in 1752 The 3rd of September became the 14th as the Gregorian Calendar was introduced into Britain. Crowds of people rioted on the streets demanding, 'Give us back our 11 days.'

I did know that, although I could not have quoted the date, and by no means every country followed suit.

I dont know about rags and bones but i can remember the second hand man. He used to give us goldfish in plastic bags as kids. Poor things, they nearly always died.

Pal and I made a soap box cart and I managed to tear my trousers on it. Mum was most upset; money for a new pair was hard to find. I’d forgotten that

I loved mine, took great photos of my kids when they were young.  I am going to be called a dinosaur but it was simple not like complicated digital one I have now I'd have mine back.

Do you remember when you had a brilliant thought and remembered it long enough to write it down?.. Just lost another one.  ???
