old brains
« on: Oct 25, 2020, 01:08:04 PM »
2014 - Dr. Michael Ramscar and a team of scientists suggested that the brains of older people only appear to slow down because they have so much information to compute, much like a full-up hard drive. “The brains of older people do not get weak. On the contrary, they simply know more.”

In general I think the world does not make enough use of older brains.

I didn't know about this Doctors theory, but husband and I came to this conclusion ourselves, can we plug in extra memory sticks?

I can hear a 1950/60s song I've not heard since and sing along with all the lyrics, where is that stored?

I too have a very good memory.. Stored away are the words from songs that my mother sang when I was a child..

‘ There’s nothing left for me.. Of days that used to be..
They’re just a memory among my souvenirs..’

I can still sing it to this day..

Quote
‘ There’s nothing left for me.. Of days that used to be..
They’re just a memory among my souvenirs..’

Some letters tied with blue A photograph or two I find a rose from you Among my souvenirs

A few more tokens rest Within my treasure chest And though they do their best To bring me consolation

I count them all apart And as my teardrops start I find a broken heart Among my souvenirs

Very poignant words even after all these years - I didnt have to look them up on google.

We must remember, there wasn't a lot to listen to in those black and white days..It was a huge hit and heard on radio all the time and, crucially, on the new-fangled tv box.. Bridged the generations and is fondly remembered by more than us. Play that at any gathering of wrinklies and the vast majority would connect deeply with it..There wouldn't be a dry thigh in the house..To quote a man I once heard..

Most odd. Name most of the reasonably well known singers of that era and a mental picture flicks out of the little grey cells, but even looking at her photo I cannot bring her to mind. Oh, I remember the name, once I had been reminded (!), but that's all - and yet she one of the big names of the time.

Just read some of her life story on Wikipedia  - she is still with us, aged 82 and has clearly had a pretty hard life, including being raped in an hotel - assailant never caught - unable to sing for four years , at one stage totally losing her voice. The lady hasn't had it easy

I don't think I am wrong but  'Among My Souvenirs' goes further back then Connie Francis.. My Mum was singing it when I was around four years old.. Also I went into hospital to have my tonsils out and a nurse on the ward would sing it too..

biglouis...  Lovely words.. I'm surprised and pleased that others remember the song..
