Doris Day
« on: Oct 30, 2020, 01:44:38 PM »
As about that  time, I have thought about fact that DD was, as a young a 17 or 18 year old, I was appalled to realize that she was an old lady of 32 or 33

Me too Jacq, she seemed to have a great chemistry with Rock Hudson.  I was mortified when I found out years later that he was gay.  James Garner was another co star I liked.

Well she was a lesbian so it balanced the books. ;D

Doris Day wasn't a lesbian but she had dreadful taste in men !  Out of the 4 husbands she had, two used to beat her up and one blew all her money.  Is it any wonder she turned to animal welfare after her only son died.

My mistake, her name popped up on a load of sites describing her as a gay icon.

Anyway from what you say she'd have been better off if she had been a lesbian.

Was not her first movie "Cover Girl" in 1944?  She would be about eighteen at the time.

According to Wiki her first film was 'Romance on the High Seas' in 1948. It was released in the UK under the title 'It's Magic' which, at a guess, maybe where the song comes from. Doris was born in 1922, which would make her 26 at the time - which surprises me, as she started singing with Les Brown in 1939 when she would have only been 17.

Now you're taking me back to days many moons ago when my Mum regularly took me to the pictures and DD was at that time one of the many superstars of those days, her and Rock Hudson, then there was Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin and not to forget other musicals like Carousel, The King and I etc. Good times and good memories.
