I'd certainly not try cycling on the canal even with one of those bikes with huge tyres.

I assume there is etiquette on the canal itself, regarding wake turbulence and traffic etc.

There are many rules, the main ones being.

Top speed of 4mph (which is difficult to achieve on most canals where the bottom is nearer the top. No breaking wash which can damage the bank. Tickover speed when passing moored boats. Drive on the right. No engines/generators to be run between 8pm and 8am when the boat is stationery.
