A gentleman's hat
« on: Nov 26, 2020, 07:49:46 AM »
A gentleman never blows on his soup to cool it – ‘e fans it wiv ‘is ‘at
A gentleman never strikes a lady without first removing his hat
Realising the need to always keep both hands free to protect ladies, a gentleman keeps his sarnies under his hat
A ‘gentleman’ without a hat is actually a cad

:) we don't see the hats these days like we used to. They told you something about the man below too.

Our next door neighbour's daughter got married (this was when we all still lived at home) and the bride's mum wore a very fetching red hat, but brother Vernon caused hilarity - including to the lady herself - with his comment to her 'You know what they say - red hat, no drawers!'

Technically a 'flat cap' I think.. As a hat wearer I know these things.. ;)

No, not to us. Always called a flat hat. Technically, I am sure you are right, but technics were beyond us!

In our area most men wore a flat hat, National Health glasses and a fawn raincoat. It was the uniform.

Years back I worked for a TV aerial company. It was just as BBC2 was launched and lots of people wanted aerials. As I could get a big discount me and another bloke there got together putting up aerials at weekends. I don't remember how long we did it but we made a fair bit of extra money.

Then one night I read in the local paper that my aerial fitting partner had been convicted of flashing. It put an end to our little business and he quit his job very soon after.

It was all rather odd as he had always seemed quite normal and even had a girlfriend.
So long and thanks for all the fish
