The prog is on BBC4 @ 9pm. It's a repeat of an Ian Hislop documentary and originally shown last year I think. I like Hislop's tv docs very much.

On top of what Cassandra says ask yourself if anybody would buy a paper with the headline "Not much happened of note today". A crisis sells more papers than that. No crisis? Invent one. Hardly a day goes by without the Express splashing weather predictions of  snow, torrential rain, huge freeze or heatwave.
Actually, I don’t buy a paper for the headline news, which, if I am interested, I will already have seen on the net. I buy it for the news which doesn’t make the headlines, the articles, and the readers letters - and in season, the cricket and rugby reports

I expect that you either have a sub or just habitually buy the same paper. Before the world stopped  lot got sold on the headline on paper sellers boards.

I have a sub, but I would feel the same even if I didn’t

Far too biased to provide objectivity I find. Applies 'motivated reasoning' overpoweringly to support his prognosis.

I find it amusing that the editor of Private Eye gives the impression of being pretty much a part of the establishment.

Whist I recognise the name of Ian Hislop and vaguely remember seeing him on somquiz show I watched for a few minutes, can’t say I know anything more about him. What sort of views does he propound?

He's the editor of Private Eye, Mike so his views tend to be jaded.. ;)

Mike

A church warden puritan who lives in Tunbridge Wells. HIGNFY panellist since inception in 1990 and pronounced Libdem EU lover.

As Zoon says has edited Private Eye for 34 years, an organ I parted company with in 2016 after 46 years as a subscriber because of his Editorial conniptions over Brexit.

A prig who projects his cantankerous and sarcastic personality these days with a spiteful and deleterious spin for anyone with a variation to his views which he seems to consider as God given.
