i have the name address and telephone number of my friends house in Chennai on a card in my Indian wallet to give the taxi driver when i get off the plane.
and on a separate card my address and house phone number in Goa, as i am well aware that it is i who is the foreigner...

I suspect here are local placenames with mismatched spelling / pronunciation almost everywhere.


I live near a village called Cogenhoe. To everybody here that is pronounced cuckno while everybody else pronounces it as the spelling suggests. Even the local river (Nene) in town is the nen while elsewhere it is pronounced neen.

i believe that river was the Nen, but had its name changed by someone wearing a white collar.. ;D
