It's easy to say that we are abusing the planet - and it is true. Bit more difficult to work out what to do about it. The big problem is the sheer number of us. As I have said before, when my father was born in 1903 there were slightly under one billion of us. Now there are over seven billion and there is no common sense expectation of the picture changing. Why should it? All species, not just us, have an inbuilt drive to reproduce.
