Most of it, I can't manage the headboard or the mattress on my own.

My son is coming to help me tonight.

A friend has been seriously unwell. He has been moved from hospital to a care home that he is keen to escape from. After six weeks he becomes liable for the fees. Yet the social worker is doing nothing to help him and even lied telling him his house counted towards assets which it does not for a temporary resident.

I cannot comment on child protection and similar issues but as regards elderly care they (social workers) are a useless bunch of t***s who don't deserve what they are paid!

That chimes with my experience too but I'm with Mac inasmuch as there are unfortunates in unfortunate places that truly need the support they provide when at their best. Not all are local council  expenditure protectors and covert spies.

Just a minor change and I'd agree. There are incompetents and poorly trained and uninformed in every service.  Some, not all.

I had difficulties trying to help a very elderly uncle in Scotland, from my home 300 miles away.   His 'care manager' wasn't giving him the help he needed, so I contacted a local councillor, and we got it sorted.

The councillors are useless in Birmingham. I contacted him and he just kept going on that the council was short of money and he thought it was fair I should pay my father's fees even though the property was jointly owned and I lived in it and I was over 60.
The mental health nurse got Dad's funding from the NHS quickly after.
I don't know if it is true but I have been told all the councillors have a bash at the council tax payers expense every 3 months at £500 per councillor.
I also had a council letter on council paper asking me not to go near the Lord Mayors house written by the council solicitor. I ignored it as I visited a relatives house 2 doors away on a regular basis. I asked if the Lord Mayor had paid for that letter to be written and got no reply.

I know there are some people who badly need their help but I would not want to get involved with that bunch. I would not let one inside my house because their eyes are everywhere. They are like witchfinder general.

Good luck with the guy who wants to escape the care home.
