Look away Brian. This could damage your health
« on: Jan 13, 2021, 06:00:54 PM »
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9143417/Homeless-Covid-jabs-local-GPs-make-rough-sleepers-priority-group-vaccinations.html

Now HOMELESS get Covid jabs as local GPs take matters into their own hands to prioritise rough sleepers ahead of over-70s - while others reveal they managed to persuade their doctors they were also a 'priority'

Oldham Council and GPs said homeless people should be made a priority group

Clinic organised at homeless shelter in Oldham, with around 30 people given jab

Dr Zahid Chauhan said the group should be prioritised as they are more at risk

He said homeless people 'extremely vulnerable' with life expectancy of 43-45

I can see the sense in that decision. So few street homeless in real numbers, it'll hardly impact on the rest of us.

They're easily dismissed or forgotten and as you say Mac, their numbers are unlikely to impact the national picture.. It's warming to know that somebody cares enough to bring it to notice, though I can only imagine the outrage and false arguments some may feel or invent..

Spot on the numbers are trivial.

I completely agree and think they should be considered a major priority group. So often 'all' homeless people are held up as social miscreants, when the circumstances leading to their condition are so often tragic. They are never mind the reasons at terrible risk due to the reduced resistance their environment dictates alone. I would happily forgo my vaccination place to help them. I can isolate a little longer in total comfort.

At least the milk of human kindness is not yet quite extinct.

For over a year now I've had one carer who's fed, watered and protected me, enabling me to remain isolated and keep safe all this time. I want to ask that he be vaccinated at the same time as me (he's in his 50s) and wondering what the chances are. It seems sensible to me but am I being selfish?

It's worth asking your local community health team the question.

Yes, I fully intend to but I'm aware that my thinking can be flawed at times so putting it here first seemed a good idea.. Just call me Foggy..

A friend is the primary carer for his mother who is approaching 100. She has has her jab but he has not had one as he is under 70 (69) so will not be called in anytime soon. If he contracts it his mother will have to go into care. So it seems logical that home carers are treated like those who work in care homes.
