Unbelievable incompetence
« on: Jan 15, 2021, 10:44:48 AM »
Fresh after NHS England lost a load of statistics through an amateur error it seems that the Home Office IT too is unfit for purpose.

If you knew somebody had lost a load of stuff from their home PC you'd wonder if they'd ever heard of taking backups. If you ran a business and your IT department lost a load of vital data from the company database then heads would roll for sure. Here is the story I've just seen in the Mail.

Home Office accidentally DELETES 150,000 fingerprint, DNA and arrest records from national police database during weekly data purge - throwing UK visa system into chaos
Records deleted in technological blunder and could allow offenders to go free
Home Office said it was working with police to 'assess the impact' of the glitch
Omissions appear to at least impinge on police power to reopen investigations
Labour has demanded Home Secretary Priti Patel to take responsibility for error

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9149609/Labour-demands-answers-police-data-accidentally-wiped.html

It seems that Labour must reckon Priti Patel keeps all this stuff on her home PC. How in the hell can a government minister be responsible for a technical screwup like that. Well apart from it possibly being due to cheapskate outsourcing I suppose while the NHS England one sounds like they had no IT department at all.
So long and thanks for all the fish

Westminster and effective IT systems are a classic oxymoron

Absolutely, could you imagine the likes of 'Dawn Butler' managing a whelk stall, let alone a Government Dept!
