spam,
« on: Jan 19, 2021, 08:54:30 AM »
just after ww2 as peace was gradually being restored to the world as countries rebuilt properties and restored their economies, as food gradually became easier to obtain , one food item has lasted well over time and that is spam,

i can remember my step father cutting spam into slices, and then dipping the slices into a thick batter, then frying them, of course it was a cheap and easy meal to prepare,

today iv seen the resurgence of spam advertised on the T.V, fried slices with an egg on the top ,

have you ever experimented with spam if so will you share your ideas  with us what other ideas have you tried using spam as the main ingredient,

Back in the Monty Python era we did try it. Once. Nasty greasy stuff so never again.

So long and thanks for all the fish

Spam fried.!! No.. I wouldn't like that.. Cold Spam in a buttered roll.. I like..
You can still buy it at the Co-op...
Everything will be alright in the end, and if it’s not alright, its not the end.

Toward the end of WW2 as a lad I queued one Saturday lunchtime at our local chippy for fish and chips for myself, mother, uncle and aunt.  Got to me and the dreaded cry went up "No more fish!"  With all the acumen and intelligence of a ten year old I remembered I had seen a tin of Spam in my auntie's larder and thought Spam and Chips, excellent idea!  Thinking further ahead, I gambled on a few extra chips so bought two bobs worth.  Struggling home with a huge newspaper parcel of chips, I was chagrinned, to say the least, at receiving a clip around the ear for my enterprising efforts.  My mother's plaintive cry still echoes in my ears "What are we going to do with all those chips, you young idiot!"

I ate it as a child, but I'm in the 'NO' camp now.  Same with corned beef.

I occasionally fancy a couple of (slim) Spam fritters with something but the rest usually goes to waste as it's a 'sometime thang'..

I hate spam....shudder, but I always mix several slices of corned beef through a big pot of stovies once they're cooked. ;)

Ohh, stovies.  Not had them for ages, might just make some tomorrow.  Still not keen on corned beef though...
